- Adding a somber note to the Right Stuff theme, the engineer who pushed the button to launch John Glenn's first orbital flight has died. He was also instrumental in getting the Apollo program on track to land a man on the moon, where we now know there is water.
- Picking up another recent thread here, George Packer has a nice little comment on November 9 and toppling dominoes occasioned by the fall of the Berlin Wall, but I still recommend M.'s post above all others.
- A Serious Man and Pirate Radio are two movies I'd like to see; I like the Coen brothers even if the NY Times isn't completely impressed with the latter film, I'll watch just about any Philip Seymour Hoffman flick. But maybe I should watch the most important ones I missed this past decade first.
- Should I give up trying to read Heidegger on political grounds?
- Megan McArdle appears to be a fan of Doctor Who, which is just about the only positive thing I can say about her. I skim her blog at The Atlantic occasionally when I feel I haven't encountered enough opinionated fools for the day. More on this topic in a future post.
- On a tenuously related tangent, this review of Malcolm Gladwell's latest is crap; this commentary on his oeuvre is consonant with my own thoughts on the subject.
- I like dogs. They're happy to see you when you come home, especially after a long deployment.
- And on a political note, I think this is a great cartoon.
Enough random linkage. Have a pleasant weekend. More tomorrow.
